Get Involved

Why get involved?

This research project is for anyone who is interested in politics, uses social media and wants to help out Dundee's local research community. By getting involved you will help the development of a body of knowledge about how we interact with televised political content. Which in turn will aid bring democratic processes such as TV debates into the 21st century.

You don't need to take part alone. If you are intending on watching the debates with a friend or a partner ask them if they would also be interested. The Gogglebox experience has been designed to be as pleasant as possible. You will be generating the footage yourself in your home while watching a debate with the aid of a camera that we provide for you. The footage will be used exclusively for the 'Second Screens for Political Discourse' PhD project and will not be distributed or published.

To be a part of this project just email me at k.gorkovenko@dundee.ac.uk

Inductions

Questionnaire

A 5 minute questionnaire will be handed out at the inductions. If you are unable to attend an induction session please press the button below and fill it out online.

Interview

Gogglebox Experiment

Following the Gogglebox experiment an interview will be arranged at your convenience. The interview will be about 40 minutes long. If you participated with a partner or a friend I will interview you together. The aim will be to discuss your use of personal devices and to clarity what happened during the debate.

The interview will give meaning and context to the observations. The Gogglebox recordings on their own would be hard to interpret correctly without a conversation with the participant. Through the experience of watching the footage with you and talking about it I hope to gain insights into how you watch political programming such as debates and how modern technology augments this event.

Gogglebox for Reaseach involves...

The Gogglebox observations will be the most exciting part of this project. You will create a recording of one of the debates from your perspective with the aid of a camcorder we provide for you.

You will receive a box a few days before the date of the debate. It will contain a camcorder, charger, instructions and treats.

The instructions will guide you through the process but just in case I (Katerina the lead researcher) will be online on Facebook messenger, Google hangouts, Skype and checking my email continuously to provide you with all the help and support you may need.

In the following few days I will collect the camcorder with the recording which will be edited down and used as a centrepiece for the interview that will follow.
